Surviving a compound attack
Close-up
Threat: the makings of an improvised Explosive Device
Threat: automatic assault rifle
Changing Threats
Today's Threats
Improvised Explosive Device (IED) sprays steel fragments at high concentration and high velocity.
Multiple hits from fully automatic assault rifles in close proximity to each other (e.g. AK-47 is the most commonly used weapon in the world but not addressed by most of the international ballistic test standards).
Compound attacks such as IED followed by assault rifle shots.
More prevalent Armour Piercing ammunition with hardened steel cores.
Our Response to Today's Threats
The New Test Protocol includes the following:
- FSP testing (Fragment Simulating Projectile) to defeat fragments from artillery attacks.
- Ballistic tests including assault rifles (Armour Piercing Ammunition).
- Explosive tests, including fragmentation mines and IEDs.
- Compound tests: explosive tests followed by ballistic tests.
Outcome: Improved Designs and Products
- New armour material systems
- New armour integration methods
- New integrated features
This design, which is based on the NEW Test Protocol, has been tested and certificated by the independent Mellrichstadt Ballistics Laboratory.
